Best Atlanta Falcons vs Carolina Panthers touchdown scorer bets: When in doubt, choose Cordarrelle Patterson

Atlanta Falcons running back Cordarrelle Patterson (84) runs with the ball during the second half against the Jacksonville Jaguars at TIAA Bank Field.

We have an NFC South showdown matchup in store on Thursday Night Football this week, with the Atlanta Falcons traveling to Charlotte to take on the Carolina Panthers. With kickoff set for 8:15 pm ET on Amazon Prime Video, it’s time to take a look at the best touchdown scorer bets and a longshot bet to be made for this Thursday Night Football matchup.

Atlanta Falcons touchdown scorer best bet: Cordarrelle Patterson, RB (+110)

Odds available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing.

After a career-best start to the season, Cordarrelle Patterson suffered a knee injury in Week 4 that kept him sidelined for several weeks. However, the versatile veteran returned last week against the Chargers and had 44 yards on the ground with 9 yards in the air for 2 touchdowns. In just 5 games this season, Patterson has 5 touchdowns. He will likely get 15 or more carries on Thursday night against a Panthers defensive unit that can’t stop the run. Carolina allowed the 3rd-most rushing yards and rushing touchdowns in the first half of the season, and they are coming off a Week 9 performance that saw Joe Mixon run for 153 yards and 4 touchdowns. On the ground or through the air, Patterson should find the end zone.

Carolina Panthers touchdown scorer best bet: D’Onta Foreman, RB (+125)

Odds available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing.

I’m sticking with another running back to score because of the weather forecast for Thursday’s game. Thunderstorms and rain are expected in Charlotte all afternoon and night, so it could be a wet game that will be won on the ground and not through the air. Since Christian McCaffrey was traded, D’Onta Foreman has risen to the challenge of being the new RB1. He ran for 118 yards in back-to-back weeks after getting rid of McCaffrey, but he didn’t have many opportunities last week since the Bengals had the ball for the majority of the game. In Week 8 against the Falcons, Foreman had 118 yards on 26 carries and had 3 touchdowns. And now, in Week 10 in poor conditions, I expect Foreman to have at least 15 touches, but that could rise to 20 if Chuba Hubbard is ruled out.

Thursday Night Football touchdown scorer longshot: Terrace Marshall Jr., WR (+300)

Odds available at FanDuel Sportsbook at time of publishing.

The previous meeting between these teams saw DJ Moore rip through the Atlanta defense for 152 yards on 6 receptions and a score. The Falcons’ defense will likely devise a stronger strategy to contain Moore as a result, in my opinion. This gives Terrace Marshall Jr., who has the same quantity of red zone targets as Moore this year, a chance for a score. Marshall’s role in the Carolina offense has expanded in recent weeks, as seen by the 15 total targets he received in Weeks 8 and 9. He caught 4 passes out of 9 attempts for a total of 87 yards against the Falcons in their overtime loss in Week 8. The weather is not ideal for the Carolina air attack, but the Atlanta secondary has allowed the most passing completions and passing yards in the league. Marshall Jr. has value at such high odds.

Anytime Touchdown Scorer FAQs

What does “anytime touchdown scorer” mean?

Anytime touchdown scorer is a popular player prop bet that NFL bettors can wager on throughout the season. But what is it, and how do you win?

As the name suggests, placing a wager on the anytime touchdown scorer market is when you tip a particular player to score a touchdown during a game. This can be a rushing or receiving touchdown for an offensive player, or you can wager on a team’s defense/special teams to score a touchdown by interception return and fumble return or kickoff and punt returns.

If your player or defense scores a touchdown, you win! The odds will differ from player-to-player depending on the sportsbooks’ calculated probability of that player scoring.

Does anytime touchdown scorer include passing touchdowns?

Not for a quarterback, no. A player must get into the endzone, himself, in order to qualify as an anytime touchdown scorer. If a quarterback throws a touchdown pass, only the player who caught it counts as the scorer. If Joe Burrow throws a touchdown pass to Ja’Marr Chase, wagers placed on Evans as an anytime touchdown scorer will cash. However, those placed on Rodgers as an anytime touchdown scorer will not (unless he also runs for a TD). See below for more on what the anytime touchdown scorer market means for quarterbacks.

What does anytime touchdown scorer mean for a QB?

For a wager on a QB to be an anytime touchdown scorer to cash, he must follow the same rules as a running back, tight end, or receiver. He must get into the end zone himself, either as a runner or a pass-catcher.

In the age of the mobile quarterback, QBs such as Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson and Kyler Murray are often seen rushing in for a touchdown on any given Sunday. And don’t forget the occasional Philly Special, either. QBs can sometimes catch passes for TDs, too.
