Colorado Avalanche -1.5 over Toronto Maple Leafs (+210)
These teams have been trending in opposite directions in the last couple of weeks. The Avalanche have won 8 of their last 9 games with the only loss being a 1-goal defeat to another playoff contender. Among wins in that span was an impressive 7-4 win over this same Maple Leafs team. Meanwhile, Toronto has dropped 5 of their last 7 games. Of their last 6 wins, just 1 of those has come against a team currently occupying a playoff spot. Toronto is searching a little bit right now.
In Toronto’s current streak of 5 losses in 7 games, they have a -10 goal differential for an average loss by 2 goals. These have not necessarily been close, nail-biting defeats the Maple Leafs have endured. They are getting bullied a little bit. This is a good team and they will likely be just fine as the playoffs approach. But Wednesday night against arguably the hottest team in hockey does not look to be the game they get right. The Avalanche are far more reliable right now, playing great hockey and having already beaten the Leafs by multiple goals. Colorado on the puck line has tons of value in our Avalanche vs Maple Leafs Same Game Parlay.
Over 6.5 (+110)
As mentioned, the prior meeting between these teams resulted in an 11-goal game total. That is not exactly surprising given both the quality and quantity of superstars between these teams. The Avalanche and Maple Leafs both have 5 players with 20+ goals and 4 players averaging well over a point per game. The high-powered offenses, both of which include offensive-defensemen, combined with average to below-average goal prevention give a ton of appeal to the game total over, even at 6.5 goals.
An Over would only add to the game total trends these teams have seen recently. It has hit in 6 of Colorado’s last 9 games, as well as in 8 of Toronto’s last 12 games. High totals have also been a theme head-to-head as their 11-goal total earlier in March made it the 6th Over in the last 7 played against one another. For Colorado, it’s their goalscoring that is driving totals, as they have scored an average of 4.44 goals over their last 9 games. For Toronto, high totals have come from their volatility. The makeup and current form of both teams looks great for an Over.
Martin Necas anytime goalscorer (+200)
Martin Necas is having by far the best season of his 8-year career. He was already having a very productive season with the Hurricanes before he was traded to the Avalanche. The trade to Colorado has only been a catalyst. Despite a few games getting used to his new teammates and systems, Necas has 7 goals and 18 points in 19 games thus far on Colorado. That contributes to his 23 goals and 70 points in 68 total games played this season along with a +8 rating and his 21:18 of average ice time he is logging with the Avalanche.
Necas earned a spot on Colorado’s top line and top power play and has not relinquished it. Every shift, he is on the ice with some combination of Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar, Valeri Nichushkin and Artturi Lehkonen among other stellar players. Game in and game out, Necas has ample opportunity to produce, especially with MacKinnon as center, who leads the NHL in assists and points with 76 and 103 respectively in 68 games played. Toronto’s lackluster goal prevention lately only opens the door even more. Look for Necas to get on the board again in this one.
