With the Baltimore Ravens turning to Lamar Jackson as their quarterback of the future it means that Joe Flacco needs to find a new home. All signs point this offseason to the Ravens trading away Flacco or they could release him. Trading him would make the most sense because they could get some cap relief and maybe some assets back. If the Ravens were to cut him after the season they would have 16 million in dead cap space they would have to swallow. There is no question the team is going to want to move on from the former Super Bowl MVP so let’s break down a few teams that should Pursue Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Anyone who is watched the Jacksonville Jaguars knows their quarterback of the future is not on their roster. Blake Bortles is not an NFL starter and Cody Kessler has proven he probably shouldn’t even be in the league. The Jaguars still have a lot of good pieces on their roster on both sides of the ball they just need a new quarterback and maybe coach to help take the next step. The one issue the Jaguars do have though is the issue with cap space as they are currently projected to have very little. As much as the move makes sense, they are going to need to make a lot of decisions on how to get more cap space to get it done.
Washington Redskins
Another team that makes a lot of sense is the Washington Redskins but there is a lot of question if they want that cap space tied up in two veteran quarterbacks. Alex Smith’s injury appears to be career threatening but they have a lot of money already tied up in him. The Redskins might have the best defense of a team that needs a quarterback but the cap space seems to be an issue.
New York Giants
The New York Giants have Eli Manning and as much as Pat Shurmur talks up his current quarterback, this team isn’t making the playoffs with him under center. The Giants have the cap space to get Flacco but they are going to need to sure up the offensive line if they want to bring him over.
Flacco has had injury issues the last few seasons and with their current offensive line, he wouldn’t perform much better than Manning has.
Oakland Raiders
It’s hard to know exactly what Jon Gruden is thinking but if he feels like the team is good enough to win now and Derek Carr isn’t the answer maybe they turn to Flacco. They have the cap space to sign him but there is a good chance that this team is still a year or two away from really competing.
Prediction
The team that makes the most sense is the New York Giants because they have the cap space and they would be an instant contender for the NFC East and the current coaching staff needs to start winning now or they will be run out of New York.
