The New Orleans Saints and the Philadelphia Eagles face off on Sunday afternoon with the Saints coming in as favorites, and for good reason. Let’s breakdown the top three reasons that the New Orleans Saints will beat the Eagles for the divisional conference crown.
They are the number one seed and have the home court advantage
The Saints have the home field advantage in this game and while it’s important for most teams playing at home, it’s even better for Drew Brees and Sean Payton. Since 2008 the Saints own the fifth best home-field advantage winning 70.3 percent of their games. Brees and Payton have also never lost a game in the playoffs inside the Super Dome.
The Crowd is loud for the start of the game until the finish and they are relentless. If they jump out to a big lead the fans will jump down the Eagles throats and not let up until the final whistle. Brees also seems to just have the magic at home. He always seems so comfortable and he makes everything look so effortless.
The top reason that the Saints can win this game is they are at home. If they were on the road there might be some talk about how the Eagles can win, but there won’t be any of that with the Eagles having to go on the road.
Nick Foles
Yes I know there is the Nick Foles magic and the best throws when they are most needed, but he isn’t going to be able to produce enough offense in this game to keep the Eagles close. Foles throws a lot of lofty throws that probably should be picked off and somehow make it to his receiver instead of the opponents.
At some point that luck needs to run out and that will be the case in this game. Those ducks are going to turn into Saints interceptions. He threw two interceptions against the Bears and lucky for him the Bears also struggled to score.
In this game the Saints won’t struggle to score and the interceptions will prove to be the difference.
Eagles secondary
When you are facing Drew Brees you need a good secondary and that is something the Eagles did have, before they all seemed to get injured. Rodney McLeod, Ronald Darby, and Jalen Mills all were injured early in the season and that has left the secondary very thin.
The Saints like to use a lot of quick hitters and get their running backs out in space for the ball and that is going to spell trouble for the secondary.
The first the Saints and Eagles faced off this year Drew Brees threw for 363 yards and four touchdowns. When this game is over there is no reason he can’t be way over that number. It’s going to be the Drew Brees show and the secondary is going to get a front row show, watching in the dust of the Saints receivers who beat them down the field for an easy touchdown.
