Ladies and gentlemen, the 2025 NFL Draft has arrived! Yes, the most fun week of the football offseason is headlined by the first round on Thursday night before the remainder of the draft continues on Friday and Saturday. It should be a wild 3 days – even if the top of the selection process is unlikely to feature any drama (Cam Ward to the Tennessee Titans seems like a lock). Before the festivities get underway in Green Bay, let’s take a look at the NFL Draft best bets in terms of player position.

Jahdae Barron, CB, Texas, Under 18.5 (-115)

Barron is coming off a stellar 5-year career at Texas. He recorded 8 interceptions over his final 3 seasons, 1 of which was returned for a 50-yard touchdown. Five of his picks came in 2024, and those were returned for a total of 82 yards. Barron has a nose for the football, plus he is a dynamic playmaker when he has it in his hands. At 5’11’’ and 200 pounds, the Austin native is a physical defender who can step in right away and immediately handle the rigors of the NFL. Cornerback is obviously a premium position and there are a whole bunch of teams who are in need of such help in the top half of the first round. He could go as high as #12 to Dallas, while Miami would also be in play at #13.

Matthew Golden, WR, Texas, Over 17.5 (+130)

I just don’t think the premium on wide receivers is high. Don’t be surprised if Tetairoa McMillan falls, and if McMillan falls then so does Golden. It’s no real fault of his own. Golden was great in his lone season at Texas after transferring from Houston, catching 58 passes for 987 yards and 9 touchdowns. He also clocked a 4.29 40-yard dash at the NFL combine. That being said, the Houston native is not blessed with overwhelming size (6’0’’, 195 pounds). Most importantly, this draft class is very deep at key positions like edge rusher, defensive tackle, offensive line and cornerback. That is the main reason why the receivers could go later than expected.

Trey Amos, CB, Ole Miss, Under 32.5 (+110)

Will Amos go in the first round? That is the question. And the answer is a yes from me. As mentioned above, cornerbacks are of the utmost importance since they play arguably the 2nd-most important defensive position behind edge rusher. NFL teams cannot have too many shutdown corners, and a lot of ‘em don’t have any. Amos would be a solid selection for any squad near the end of round 1. The senior out of Ole Miss enjoyed his best collegiate season in 2024, making 3 interceptions to go along with 13 passes defensed and 50 tackles (39 solo). He has good size at 6’1’’, 190 pounds and he clocked a 4.43 in the 40-yard dash. Amos’ stock is on the rise and the betting markets haven’t quite adjusted.
