The World Baseball Classic is well underway and 3 teams have punched their tickets to the quarterfinals so far: Japan, Cuba and Italy. Team USA is looking to following that blueprint, as it got its tournament started on Saturday night with a win over Great Britain. The Americans are back on the field on Sunday night against Mexico in an important matchup for both sides. Other games include Great Britain vs Canada, Venezuela vs Puerto Rico and Australia vs Czech Republic.
Let’s take a look at my best bet for today’s action as I try to build on the success of our best bets during the World Baseball Classic.

USA vs Mexico predictions in the 2023 World Baseball Classic 2023: Over 9.5 (-115)

Chase Field is a hitter’s park, and Team USA’s offense took full advantage of it in the opener on Saturday, dispatching Great Britain 6-2 to start the tournament. The most impressive aspect of the win was that the Americans didn’t even really flex their muscles on offense.
Team USA finished with 9 hits in the victory, but 3 of them came from Nolan Arenado, while Mike Trout, Mookie Betts and Paul Goldschmidt combined for just 2 hits. Don’t expect that to continue in this matchup against Patrick Sandoval. While Sandoval finished with solid peripherals in 2022, the Angels lefty was below average in xBA and xERA on the season. We can expect plenty of hard contact from Team USA’s loaded lineup on Sunday, but Mexico should also do its part. Nick Martinez will take the mound for the Americans, and the Padres’ right-hander had fairly average metrics a season ago. Mexico’s lineup should scratch home at least a few runs and keep things interesting. More importantly, this game should reach double digits.
