Last year the top defensive honors went to San Francisco 49ers DE Nick Bosa. He was preceded won the winners list by T.J. Watt of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Aaron Donald of the Los Angeles. Donald’s success in 2020 marked the third DPOY Award of his career, tying him for the most with Lawrence Taylor and J.J. Watt.

NFL Defensive Player of the Year best bet: Micah Parsons, LB, Dallas Cowboys (+650)
I’m not going to lie; I just assumed Parsons won Defensive Player of the Year in 2022 before learning otherwise when I paid a visit to Google. There are no assumptions that Parsons will win it for the first time in 2023, but – even as the favorite – at +650 odds I’m hammering him to do so. The former Penn State standout had 13.5 sacks last year, which was preceded by 13 in his rookie season. Parsons has also delivered 3 forced fumbles in each of his 2 seasons and he also recovered 3 last year. At 24 years old, you have to think that Harrisburg, Penn. native is only going to improve. That’s downright scary.
NFL Defensive Player of the Year longshot play: Maxx Crosby, DE, Las Vegas Raiders (+1600)
Crosby is squarely in his prime at 25 years old and he has been getting better and better each season. The Eastern Michigan product recorded a career-high 12.5 sacks in 2022 to go along with best-ever marks in total tackles (89) and solo tackles (58). He also forced 3 fumbles and had a recovery. What you also have to like about Crosby is that he has never missed a single game in 4 NFL seasons. Barring a rare injury, he is going to be on the field and give himself every opportunity to rack up more and more numbers.
