Team USA claimed gold for the first time at Beijing 2022 as Lindsey Jacobellis banished the ghosts of previous Olympics to win the women’s snowboard cross.

There was more agony for Mikaela Shiffrin, though, as the golden girl of skiing was disqualified for missing the 4th gate in the women’s slalom, having gone out of the Super-G in similar fashion previously.

However, more glory could follow today with Chloe Kim and Nathan Chen both in action.

Winter Olympics women’s snowboard halfpipe analysis

At odds of -350, Chloe Kim does not represent much of a betting opportunity in the women’s snowboard halfpipe, but the Californian is a heavy favorite for good reason after opening up with a leading score of 87.75 in the first round of qualification.

The defending Olympic champion did not need to find her top form to qualify — and even fell on her second and final run — but she is capable of much, much more, as she showed when dominating in Pyeongchang in 2018 and more recently at the 2021 World Championship and X Games.

Another big technical run should see the 21-year-old retain her Olympic title with her likely challenge coming from China’s Cai Xuetong (+650) as well as promising 17-year-old Japanese starlet Mitsuki Ono (+750), who posted the second-best run in qualifying.

Kim looks close to unbeatable in the 3-run final, which begins at 8:30 pm ET with the final run at 9:25 pm ET.

Winter Olympics men’s figure skating analysis

Nathan Chen posted a world-record score of 113.97 in the short program in the men’s figure skate on Monday and heads into today’s free skate in a commanding position as he bids for a first Olympic gold. The 22-year-old three-time world champion takes the ice at 8:30 pm ET.

Winter Olympics women’s cross-country skiing 10km Classic best bet: Frida Karlsson (+550)

There is also gold up for grabs in the women’s cross-country skiing, with 15km skiathlon champion Therese Johaug the red-hot favorite at -700 to win the 10km classic.

The Norwegian dominated the 7.5km freestyle section of the skiathlon to claim her first solo Olympic gold, but she has not won a World Cup classic style event since November 2020 and, if she is at all vulnerable, it will likely be in this event.

Take her on with 22-year-old Swede Frida Karlsson (+550), who won the classic in Rukatunturi in November and was right there with Johaug during the classic portion of the skiathlon before fading into 5th place due to a poor freestyle section. The 10km classic starts at 2:00 am ET.
