The 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing rolls on with another great day of action. Today, we’re focusing on the men’s slalom with a best bet at +550. Let’s dive in.
Winter Olympics men’s slalom best bet: Manuel Feller to win gold (+550)
Marco Odermatt justified favoritism in the men’s giant slalom, taking Olympic gold in the discipline he has dominated all season. But the market for the slalom — Alpine skiing’s most technical format — couldn’t be more different.
It’s impossible to pick out a clear favorite for today’s race, which starts at 9:15 pm ET, after a truly bonkers season that has seen 6 different winners in the 6 races to date and 14 skiers make a podium appearance.
Two of those winners were claiming their first-ever World Cup victories, with Britain’s Dave Ryding becoming the oldest man ever to win a World Cup slalom at the age of 35 with his victory at Kitzbuhel.
Austria’s Johannes Strolz wasn’t expected to qualify for the second run when he won at Adelboden, and while he has only finished one other World Cup slalom this season, he took the gold medal in the Alpine combined on Thursday.
While that experience will be useful, he faces some much stronger slalom skiers today.
Inconsistency has been the defining feature of this World Cup slalom season, so in this high-stakes race it could pay to bet on a man who has at least been fairly consistent.
Manuel Feller has been on the World Cup circuit for 10 years but picked up his only 2 wins — both in slalom — last year. While he is yet to take a World Cup victory this season, he has been 2nd, 4th and 3rd in his last 3 starts and could prove the best bet in a wide-open event.
