Day 2 of the 2022 Winter Olympics gets underway on Wednesday night US time, a day before the opening ceremony in Beijing.
During the course of the 19-day extravaganza, 109 events will be staged on snow and ice, mountain and rink and Team USA is +120 to bring home at least 10 gold medals.
2022 Winter Olympics Women’s Hockey best bets
The start of the women’s hockey competition is the highlight of the day with defending Olympic champions USA set to take on Finland at 7:30 am ET on Thursday morning.
It’s a more youthful USA roster than the group who beat Canada in a shootout in Pyongchang to end a 20-year gold medal drought. But a 3-2 OT defeat to the Canadians in August’s World Championship showed off their credentials. The only goals the US team allowed on their way to the final were in their preliminary round defeat to Canada and in a 10-2 hammering of Japan in the quarter-finals.
The four-time champion Canadians are -125 for a fifth Olympic gold, with USA available at -105 in what is effectively a two-horse race. Team USA should be able to make it a winning start against Finland.
Canada faces off against Switzerland at 11:10 pm ET on Wednesday night.
Also on the slate, the curling mixed doubles continues while freestyle skiing joins the schedule. Defending Olympic moguls champion Mikael Kingsbury is in peak form and is -125 for a repeat gold.
