The Jaguars began the 2021 season as the team with the worst record in the NFL and they ended it the same way. In between a heck of a lot happened. The wild days of the Urban Meyer era are behind them now, though, and normality should be restored under new head coach Doug Pederson. The recent underachievement has handed the Jags a lot of smart young talent from the draft, with 2021 first overall pick Trevor Lawrence joined by this year’s first selection Travon Walker.
It’s probably best not to expect a sudden return to glory for the Jaguars, but the madness of last season probably disguised to some extent how good their roster might have been under more normal circumstances, so a season of steady improvement would no doubt be welcomed by all concerned.

Jacksonville Jaguars 2021 season recap
Jaguars fans won’t want to be reminded of the 2021 season at all. New head coach Urban Meyer found the move from college ranks to the NFL tough and his team lost their first 5 games (taking their losing streak to 20) before getting on the board with a 23-20 win over the Dolphins in London. They scored a stunning 9-6 win over Buffalo in Week 9, which remains a mystery to all, but the Meyer experiment didn’t last much longer. A number of off-field issues combined with the team performances led him to be fired on December 16, with Darrell Bevell taking over for the final 4 games of the season. He added a win to their record, and an important one at that as the 26-11 success over Indianapolis knocked the Colts out of the playoffs.

Jacksonville Jaguars 2022 NFL season predictions
There’s plenty of scope for improvement with the Jaguars, with new head coach Doug Pederson likely to prove an excellent mentor for Lawrence and last year’s first-round RB Travis Etienne healthy again after missing his whole first season. There has been a lot of change with this team so it’s hard to expect a sudden rise to stardom, but small steps in the right direction should be expected while the new coaching staff deprograms any bad habits and shows the players the right way to do things.
The Jags had a fearsome defense just a few years ago before trading most of it away, but they’re putting the building blocks together to be a defensive force again and 5 of this year’s draft picks were spent on that side of the ball. We didn’t see many flashes of potential greatness from Lawrence last year, but it would have been hard for any rookie to succeed in that situation and it’s good that he gets a fresh start. There are not many soft games in the first half of the schedule for Pederson to find his feet, though, but the team has enough talent now to avoid picking first in the draft for a third successive season.

Best bet: Jacksonville Jaguars under 6.5 wins (-130)
Looking at the Jaguars’ schedule, there are only a half-dozen games where you would think they have a decent shot of being competitive at first glance — and a lot more in which it seems likely some misfortune would have to have strike the opponents for them to have a shot. The Jags should definitely make a welcome improvement this season, but they can double last season’s win tally and still not go over their win total. Taking under 6.5 seems like the sensible move.
Jacksonville Jaguars season record predictions
With games against the Texans, Lions and Jets on their schedule, there are going to be chances for the Jags to record wins this season but they may have to show patience before the new regime manages to make them regular winners. A 6-11 season looks to be around the right mark.
