The 2022 NFL Draft is less than a week away (it begins next Thursday). Things could get crazy in Las Vegas (as they have been known to do on occasion!), as there is no clear-cut favorite to be the No. 1 overall pick. Even the position battles are extremely intriguing, potentially going in any number of directions near the top of the draft.
One of the more interesting cases is that of Oregon defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux. It’s not entirely out of the question that Thibodeaux goes No. 1 overall, but he could just as likely drop all the way out of the top 10.
Let’s take a look at what may be in store for Thibodeaux next week.
2022 NFL Draft Kayvon Thibodeaux prop odds
There are a number of different wagers you could make on Thibodeaux before draft night. He’s a longshot to be the 1st overall pick at +1800, but that’s probably not the prop market to focus on when it comes to Thibodeaux. The over/under on his draft position is 4.5, with under being a -145 favorite and over currently registering at +115.
No odds are currently on the board for the first defensive end and/or defensive lineman to be drafted. However, there are plenty of other props available on Thibodeaux and other top prospects. He is -250 to go in the top 5 and -2500 to go in the top 10 – not exactly decent value in the latter market!
2022 NFL Draft Kayvon Thibodeaux best prop bet
The bad news is that as of Friday, there are no Thibodeaux props close to even money other than the over/under on his draft position. The good news is that there does appear to be plenty of value on that over/under number.
Thibodeaux’s talent is undeniable. Strictly from a potential perspective, he is worthy of being the No. 1 overall selection. He is more than capable of becoming the best player in this class and producing the most dominant career out of everyone. The Los Angeles native stands at 6’4’’ and 254 pounds and he clocked a 4.58 in the 40-yard dash at the NFL combine. He can be an absolute disrupter in opposing teams’ passing attacks because of his ability to rush the quarterback – with the emphasis on can.
There is no guarantee that he will be. There have always been concerns about Thibodeaux’s motivation and general passion for football. That was a result of his relatively modest numbers in college; not once in his 3-year career for the Ducks did he reach a double-digit number of sacks in a single season (9, 3 and 7). He also forced a total of just 3 fumbles in 3 seasons.
In the buildup to the NFL Draft, those questions surrounding his passion and drive have only grown louder. Normally when that is the case for any player, things don’t go well for the player on draft day. In this day and age in the NFL, general managers seem less inclined to put their jobs at risk with a boom-or-bust selection at or near the top of the draft. Obviously, no one is ever a slam dunk (especially not in this class!), but Thibodeaux really isn’t a sure thing.
At +115, I’ll happily take plus money on Thibodeaux falling out of the top 4.
