The Southeast Division in the NBA is basically a two team race between the Washington Wizards and the Miami Heat for 1st place and the rest of the division are among the NBA’s bottom teams. This article will look at the over/under win totals as well as key additions the teams made in the off-season as a determining factor of whether or not they go over or under the total wins. We’ll start by looking at the team with the projected highest NBA Betting win total in the Washington Wizards.
Washington Wizards: 45.5
Vegas has the Washington Wizards listed as -154 to win the Southeast division and their win total at 45.5. The Wizards made the playoffs last season as a wildcard team with a record of 43-39, but were eliminated by the Toronto Raptors in the 1st round of the playoffs in 6 games. Washington added Austin Rivers to play the backup point guard position and added Dwight Howard at the center position. The Wizards are not a great team, but should still win the division and hit the over in the total wins because of the bad teams within the division.
Miami Heat: 43.5
The Miami Heat are 2nd in terms of being the favorites to win the Southeast Division at +160. They won the division last season after finishing with a record of 44-38 before being eliminated in the 1st round by the Philadelphia 76ers in 5 games. Miami didn’t make any off-season additions, but they also didn’t lose any players thus they have the same roster as last season. They won the division last season and won 44 games, but I don’t see them repeating that this season which is why the under 43.5 is the right call for the win total.
Charlotte Hornets: 35.5
The Hornets are projected to have the 3rd highest win total by Vegas in the Southeast division. They didn’t make the playoffs last season after finishing 3rd in the division with a record of 36-46. Charlotte got rid of Dwight Howard which cleared some cap space, but other than that they didn’t make any significant moves to help their roster. They have a young and up and coming team that I look to progress to a borderline playoff team this season and I love the over 35.5 win total this season for the team.
Orlando Magic: 31
The Magic will likely have one of the worst teams in the NBA and Vegas agrees with that with their win total only being 31. They missed the playoffs last season after finishing the season with a record of 25-57. Orlando added Mohamed Bamba whose height will help them in the defensive department as well as re-signing Aaaron Gordon giving them a young duo that the team can build around for the future. They didn’t make a lot of moves though and I don’t see them improving by six games over last year’s team because of that so the under 31 is a strong play for the Magic.
Atlanta Hawks: 22.5
The Atlanta Hawks have the lowest win total projected in the NBA by Vegas and they will likely live up to that as being the worst team in the league. They missed the playoffs last season after finishing with a record of 24-58. Atlanta traded for Trae Young and they are going to build their team around him, but it will be another two or three years before they are even competitive. As low as the total is at 22.5 I still think it goes under as the team only has one key player in Young.
