The Texas Rangers will take on the San Francisco Giants in the first game of this series. The Rangers are coming off a hard-fought series against the Athletics, while the Giants just won a series against the Milwaukee Brewers. Texas has turned on the hitting with multiple home runs in 2 out of the 3 games against the Athletics. On the other side, the Giants were out-hit in 2 of the games that they ended up winning against the Brewers. The bullpen continues to be strong for San Francisco.

On the mound, it’s Nathan Eovaldi of the Rangers and Justin Verlander of the Giants. Eovaldi surprised the baseball world earlier this year with a complete game against the Cincinnati Reds. Since then he has given up around 1 hit per inning and 7 earned runs through 15.2 innings. Verlander recently pitched his best game of the season, in which he gave up 2 hits and 1 run through 6.0 innings against the Los Angeles Angels. Outside of that game, Verlander has struggled to the tune of a 5.47 ERA.

A good game between these teams can expected. We find our edge in the fact that the Rangers are happily hitting home runs in the California weather and Verlander has given up 11 home runs this season. To top that off, the Giants used 4 bullpen pitchers in the recent game because Landen Roupp was only able to pitch 3.2 innings against the Brewers. Given the potential for Verlander to revert to his struggling ways and the collective hitting of the Rangers improving, I’m rolling with Texas to take the series opener.
