New York Yankees vs Cleveland Guardians Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 10/18/24

Game 3 was action packed between the New York Yankees and Cleveland Guardians as the Yankees were just one strike away from taking a commanding 3-0 lead in the ALCS, but the rookie Jhonkensy Noel had other plans.  The rookie blasted a two-run homer in the bottom of the 9th to tie the game at 5, and then David Fry hit a two-run blast in the bottom of the 10th to win it for the Guardians by a final score of 7-5.   The Guardians have to feel great about Thursday night’s game and they’ll be looking to tie this series at two, which brings us into our Yankees vs Guardians prediction. 

It will be hard to match the excitement in Game 3, but Game 4 will certainly be exciting to watch as both teams will be sending out starters who have yet to make a start in this postseason.  The Yankees will be sending Luis Gil to the mound who was 15-7 on the season with a 3.50 ERA, and the Guardians will be Gavin Williams to the mound who was 3-10 on the season with a 4.86 ERA.  Gavin struggled against the Yankees back in August, giving up three earned runs in 4.1 innings pitched.  The same goes for Gil who gave up three earned runs in three innings pitched.  The Yankees have to be sick to their stomach after Thursday’s loss, but they have to be feeling good about Aaron Judge and the way he’s been swinging his bat over the last two games.  It’s hard to gauge how both of these starters will perform come game time, but looking at how they performed all season long, I trust Gil way more than Williams. Not to mention the Guardians bullpen has been heavily utilized over the last three games, and the Yankees have had the better lineup all season long.  Look for the Yankees to get revenge after Thursday’s night’s loss, which is why I’ll be backing the Yankees money line as my best bet on Friday night.
