After a tough road series, the Orioles return home to face their division rivals, the New York Yankees. Baltimore has dropped 5 of its last 6 games, raising concerns about the season as the team continues to slide in the AL East standings. Today’s matchup marks the first meeting between the Yankees and Orioles this season, and the Yankees will be in a good position to steal Game 1 of the 3-game series as they send Will Warren to the mound.
Warren is 1-0 in his 5 starts this season, posting a 4.79 ERA across 20.2 innings pitched. Warren continues to struggle to go deep into the game, which could mean trouble for the Yankees as they used their bullpen quite a bit on Sunday during their doubleheader against the Blue Jays. The Orioles will be sending the rookie Tomoyuki Sugano to the mound, who is 2-1 with a 3.54 ERA in 5 starts this season. These 2 teams are playing at completely different levels right now, and given the Orioles’ recent struggles, I don’t see them fixing their offense overnight.
