Mets vs Nationals Pickswise Expert Predictions
The Mets rallied in the top of the eighth inning on Friday night to take a 4-3 lead, but the Nationals had other plans. Washington rallied in the bottom of the 9th to steal one against the Mets, snapping a 7-game winning streak. Today the Nationals will look to keep things rolling in hopes to take another game in this series against their divisional rivals — but it won’t be easy.
Clay Holmes’ transition from a closer to a starter has paid off for the Mets so far this season. In 5 starts, Holmes is 2-1 with a 3.16 ERA and has struck out 34. As for the Nationals, they’ll send rookie Brad Lord to the mound, who has yet to find his footing. Lord is 0-2 with a 4.73 ERA in 6 starts, and his longest outing so far is just 4.1 innings against the Pirates on April 14. Looking at today’s matchup, there are 2 things that stick out when breaking it down. First, the Mets will have the opportunity to get after this Nationals’ bullpen early on as I don’t expect Lord to go deep into this game. The Nats have the leagues worst bullpen ERA (6.89) and they’ve been heavily utilized in their last few games. Second, New York will look for revenge and I think Juan Soto, Pete Alonso, Francisco Lindor and others should find success against the struggling rookie. This is a perfect opportunity for the Mets to bounce back after their tough loss. Look for the New York Mets to roll and steal one on the road.
