Detroit Tigers vs Cleveland Guardians Prediction, Odds and Picks for Monday, 10/07/24
Tigers vs Guardians Pickswise Expert Predictions
Game totals can be very low during postseason play, but Monday’s matchup between the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Guardians has a total of just 6 with a couple of southpaw pitchers taking the mound for their respective clubs. Tarik Skubal will start for Detroit, making his 2nd appearance during this run. His first outing resulted in 6.0 scoreless frames against a tougher Astros lineup, and I expect success from the Cy Young favorite in this spot. Skubal tossed 7.0 innings of 1-run ball against this lineup earlier in the season, and his current form is about as good as it gets. The Tigers’ bullpen has also been in good form for well over a month at this point.
Matthew Boyd hasn’t pitched since September 21, but his 39.2 innings during the regular season provided the club with a much-needed boost to its rotation depth at the end of the season. Boyd is a capable strikeout pitcher, and he should be able to pitch decently well against a Tigers lineup that lacks proven consistency. Still, Boyd is clearly the lesser of today’s starting options and with his recent lack of innings we shouldn’t expect a full workload. In what should be a low-scoring but entertaining game, I side with Detroit and Skubal.
