Orioles vs Tigers Pickswise Expert Predictions
Casey Mize and the Detroit Tigers are hosting the Baltimore Orioles in their home ballpark on Friday, and I lean toward a win for the Tigers to begin this 3-game series. Mize has been sharp so far in 2025, allowing 1 or 0 earned runs in 3 of his 4 outings while utilizing a new pitch mix. The former #1 overall draft pick has always had immense talent, but he finally seems to be putting his potential on display with recent performances. He draws a matchup against a deep Baltimore lineup that prefers to hit against right-handed pitching, but Mize is still my preferred starting option for Friday’s matchup.
Brandon Young will take the mound for the Orioles, making his 2nd MLB appearance following his debut last Saturday against the Reds. Cincinnati scored 3 runs off of Young within his 4-inning spurt, totaling 10 base runners against the right-hander in their 19 plate appearances. Young is being pushed into the rotation due to injuries and overall poor performance from the Orioles’ pitching staff. Baltimore hopes he can provide the team with depth innings this season, but I expect Detroit to win today’s matchup.
