Cameron Young and in-form Max Greyserman lead the betting market but preference is for Germany’s Matti Schmid, who has finished 16th, 5th and 3rd in his last 3 PGA Tour appearances. Schmid has been striking his irons well recently and putting magnificently, and it’s perhaps significant that he was 10th at the Puerto Rico Open and 11th at the Corales Puntacana Championship earlier in the season, both at venues featuring the paspalum grass he will encounter in Mexico this week.

Matt Kuchar won this title at previous venue El Camaleon in 2018 and the veteran could double up at El Cardonal, where he was a runner-up last season despite making a card-busting quadruple-bogey 8 at the 15th in the 3rd round. Kuchar has finished in the top 15 in 4 of his last 6 PGA Tour starts and could easily contend in this limited company.

Austin Eckroat returned from a 2-month break with a 46th-place finish at the Shriners Children’s Open and while he will have to find more to contend this week, the 25-year-old is a high-class iron-player who could take to this test.

At huge 3-figure odds, consider Wesley Bryan, who was a runner-up at the Corales Course in April and has been carding some low scores in finishing 13th, 37th and 21st in his last 3 starts.
