Virginia Tech Hokies vs Miami Hurricanes Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 09/27/24
Virginia Tech vs Miami Pickswise Expert Predictions
Our Virginia Tech vs Miami prediction needs to start with an actual hurricane. As of the time of this writing (Monday night), it looks like a hurricane will pass through Florida sometime around Thursday, but will still likely be dumping rain on Hard Rock Stadium a day later. Strong wind and rains definitely would impact how you play this game, so check back on Friday. Speaking of which, this game is scheduled to be played on Friday, which tends to inject an element of chaos into games for some reason. The undefeated Hurricanes have yet to leave their home state, and after ripping Florida in the opener, they have just beaten up on lesser competition since. The Hokies have taken 2 losses, one at Vandy and the other at home to Rutgers. Those losses have people looking for a blowout in Miami on Friday night, but I am skeptical. My Virginia Tech vs Miami pick is to take the Hokies +19 (and if you wait, you might get a full +21 somewhere).
Why can the Hokies compete? First, this is one of the most veteran teams in the country. The 2 losses were tough, no doubt, but this is an experienced team who still has their entire conference schedule in front of them. Their defense is good, and its strength is a solid pass rush and 2 NFL-caliber corners. Miami shouldn’t be able to sling it all over the field for 400+ yards against this defense, one wouldn’t think. What about Miami? I think this team is super talented, and the sky is the limit. It is possible they come out on Friday looking to make a statement. But I do think this is a tough matchup for the Canes, largely because both the matchup and the weather will push them to throttle down the offense and keep the ball on the ground more. And then there’s the coaching staff—I can’t write about Miami without reminding you that there is a 100% chance that this staff will ruin one of your bets this season, and you just won’t know when it is coming. In the end, I think Miami wins this, but there are quite a few reasons that this one might be much more of a battle than the closing line might indicate.
