Texas Tech heads to Arizona to face the Big 12 newcomers in a late-night game. If you were a fan of “Pac-12 After Dark”, this is probably the game you want to target. We have 2 big offenses going at it, and an expected point total in the 60s, so if you are into that sort of thing, this is a fun spot. For me, I am sticking with the side and taking the host Wildcats. In short, I think Arizona is a pretty good football team, and I do not think Texas Tech is anything special. I had my doubts about Arizona early on, especially when the struggled against Northern Arizona and then got worked over by Kansas State. But last week’s road win at Utah has restored my faith. Texas Tech is 1-1 in Big 12 play, but I am not convinced this team has much to work with. I expect them to fade from. I am concerned about the Red Raiders giving up nearly 500 yards through the air to Cincinnati last week. Arizona has one of the best receivers in the country and a potent passing attack built around him, and it looks like the Wildcats will be able to move up and down the field with ease against these Red Raiders. On the other side of the ball, Tech loves to play fast — but quarterback Behren Morton tends to struggle on the road and aside from an early trip to Washington State, this will be their first real road test of the season. I think the Red Raiders will struggle on both sides of the ball, and while they will likely pile up some yardage just because of the number of plays the will run, I don’t expect them to be particularly effective. I think Arizona pulls away in this contest.
