Kent State’s football program has only 1 win since the beginning of the 2023 season and did not give itself a break to start 2024. After being decimated 71-0 last week in Tennessee, the Golden Flashes will now need to compete in Beaver Stadium. Penn State should be fresh heading into this matchup. After starting the season 2-0, the Nittany Lions had last week off. Their victories this season have come at West Virginia, and at home against Bowling Green. Penn State QB Drew Allar has been efficient and effective to start his campaign, ranking 5th in rating among all FBS quarterbacks.

This is the largest difference in spread out of any FBS college football game this week. My pick for this game is not due to the talent of Kent State, but instead how I believe this game will play out. With Big Ten play coming up next for Penn State, I don’t assume that we see its full arsenal in this game. The Nittany Lions have such an advantage in talent that Saturday’s game will be acting as more of a walkthrough. The 10th-ranked Nittany Lions will be looking to go up early by several touchdowns, and then I expect to see a heavy number of their backups by as early as the start of the third quarter. While Penn State is one of the top teams in the country, it does not have the same desire as Tennessee to show the country how elite its offense is.
