This year, the trophy is a functioning toaster, and I can’t imagine that either team would dream of giving anything less than their best effort to secure it. Nearly everyone for both teams insists they are playing, despite a good bit of doubt from outsiders. Cam Ward, in particular, surprises me, but hey, the kid says he’s playing. I can’t bring myself to back either of these teams on the spread. Miami is entirely untrustworthy with their total lack of defense and their questionable coaching staff. I trust Mario Cristobal about as much as I trust my blood sugar after a Pop-Tart. However, I do trust a couple of things in this game. I trust Cam Ward to pile up yards against pretty much any defense, and I trust Miami’s defense to be dreadful against a solid passing attack. Iowa State has a pair of 1000-yard receivers in Jaylin Noel and Jayden Higgins, and both are expected to play. In short, I think we are going to see a lot of passing yards, and both teams should threaten the 30-point mark if that happens. Give me the over.
