Georgia State Panthers vs Marshall Thundering Herd Prediction, Odds and Picks for Thursday, 10/17/24

This week, Georgia State heads north to battle the Marshall Thundering Herd at Joan C. Edwards Stadium in Huntington, W. Va. This is a critical game for both sides in their pursuit of bowl eligibility, as time is ticking, and each side already has three losses. It can ill afford another. Georgia State has two victories in five tries, and somehow the only FBS win came against Vanderbilt on Sept. 14, the team which took down No. 1 Alabama. So, the Panthers can compete, but it has been rather erratic in its execution. Georgia State lost by 17 at home to Georgia Southern to follow up that upset of Vandy, and it lost 21-14 at home to Old Dominion on Saturday. It is 1-4 ATS on the season, and the defense has allowed 21 or more points in all five outings.

The Thundering Herd are coming off a narrow 24-23 loss at Georgia Southern, in which they surrendered a 3-score lead in the final quarter. Prior to that, Marshall was 5-0 ATS, including covers at Virginia Tech and at Ohio State. As a favorite this season, Marshall is a perfect 3-0 ATS, too. Georgia State has covered each of the past two meetings in this series, but it has a pathetic run game, and the defense is poor, too. Georgia State allows 405.6 total yards per game, and 174.8 rushing yards per game. Marshall also struggles on D, giving up 174.5 yards per game on the ground. Marshall struggles to pass the ball, though, so go lightly on the Over. But with two bad defenses, we should get across the finish line.
