Afternoon action in the Big 12 takes us to Morgantown for our Baylor Bears vs West Virginia Mountaineers prediction. Baylor is favored in this game, and they come in riding a modest 3-game win streak. They are on the verge of salvaging a season that looked bleak during the first half. The Mountaineers come in with an identical 5-4 record, but they are 4-2 in the conference and are somehow still alive in the conference race. They have struggled against the good teams in the conference, and they have narrowly survived some of the weaker conference opponents. The question here is which is Baylor? It is worth noting that the Bears traditionally struggle at West Virginia, so we could be in a spot where the wrong team is favored. For me, I think the better play is the game total over 59, as this has the makings of a classic Big 12 afternoon shootout.

I am not confident that either team will come up with many stops on Saturday. Both teams lean heavily on their rushing attack, and when they throw, they tend to throw opportunistically down the field. Neither team is prone to 8-minute long, quarter-killing drives, as these are both quick offenses. Baylor’s propensity for going for it on 4^th down also pushes up the scoring, both for Baylor (more drives are sustained), and their opponents (turnovers on short fields). I think it is extremely likely that one, and probably both, teams go over 30 points, and this just doesn’t seem like a defensive battle in the trenches. Give me the over.
