Arizona Wildcats vs Utah Utes Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 09/28/24

Two new members of the Big 12 face off Saturday night in what used to be “Pac 12 After Dark”, and we have your Arizona Wildcats vs Utah Utes prediction here. Now that this is a Big 12 battle, I am not sure much changes, and the Utes have traditionally manhandled some of the more high octane offenses out west and instead forced them to play Utah’s brand of football. I think that is exactly what will happen on Saturday, as Utah seems to be a dominant force in the Big 12 while Arizona seems to be a flashy offense with not a lot of substance otherwise. My Arizona vs Utah best bet is the Utes -11.

Arizona is a one-trick-pony offense: force feed the ball to Tetairoa McMillian as often as possible. In their last game against Kansas State, K State let Arizona throw to T-Mac all they wanted, but then shut down the rest of the offensive attack. Arizona gained yards, but never really scored. I look for Utah to employ a similar strategy, and they probably will be able to bottle up McMillian a bit more too. The Arizona defense is dreadful, and they have not shown me anywhere near enough to make me believe they can slow down a decent offense. Utah has been winning without their senior (senior citizen?) QB Cam Rising, and even without him this week, I would still play the Utes. Rising should return though, and that is more bad news for Arizona. Look, if New Mexico ran all over the Wildcats, what you do think the Utes will do? I think the Arizona defense gets blasted, and the Utah defense does more than enough to throttle down this Wildcat offense. Utah, playing at home, probably with their QB back in the fold . . . that just looks like a recipe for a runaway game. Give me the Utes in this one.
