The NHL’s Friday night 2-game slate features a matchup between the Buffalo Sabres and the Anaheim Ducks. The Sabres look to build off a win over the Kings in their most recent outing, while the Ducks look to maintain their winning streak and push it to 4 games. The Sabres have been mediocre on offense this season, ranking 13th in goals per game, 25th in shots on goal and 17th in powerplay percentage. Their record reflects this average play, as they sit at 9-9-1 on the season. The Ducks also struggle on the penalty kill, killing them off 68.7% of the time — 29th best in the league. However, they do mitigate their poor penalty kill by only taking 6.9 penalty minutes per game — 4th fewest in the league. The Ducks have been red hot their past 3 games, beating the Blackhawks, Stars and Red Wings with a combined goal differential of +5 over those 3 games. I am a big believer in momentum, and right now the Ducks have all the momentum in the world. The Sabres clawed out a win over the Kings in which they only scored 1 goal last time out. I think Anaheim comes out firing, jumping on Buffalo early.
