Retail sports betting was legalized in Montana in March 2020. Online sports betting is not yet legal in Montana, and there is currently no indication that this will change soon.
Sports betting is legal in casinos in Deadwood and tribal casinos in South Dakota and has been since August 2021. There is currently no timeframe on when or whether online sports betting will be legalized in South Dakota.
While nothing technically prohibits online sports betting in Washington, sports betting must occur on tribal land, so it's not as readily accessible, or fully set up like other states across the US. Retail sports betting is legal, but again, on tribal casino land across the state.
Retail sports betting was legalized in Wisconsin in August 2021. Online sports betting is currently not legal in Wisconsin. There is currently no timeline for online sports betting to be legalized in the state.
Retail sports betting is available on tribal land of North Dakota's federally recognized tribes and has been since December 2021. North Dakota lawmakers rejected a sports betting ballot in 2022. There is currently no timeline for if or when online sports betting will be legalized.
No legislation has been passed in New Mexico since 2018 following PASPA being deemed unconstitutional. However, Native American tribes have facilitated retail, in-person sports betting at their casinos since October 2018.
Sports Betting is currently enacted in Nebraska. Legislature was passed in 2021, for retail-only sports betting at Nebraska’s licensed horse tracks, but the state still lacks the infrastructure to take sports bets as yet.
Retail sports betting is currently legal in Mississippi. Online sports betting is currently not legal and may face stiff opposition from politicians in a conservative state.
Sports betting is currently not legal in Utah. The state of Utah currently has no major legal gaming form, an is unlikely to legalize sports betting of any sort.
Sports betting is currently not legal in the state of Texas. A new bill has been proposed in 2023, and while once an unlikely state to legalize sports betting, there is growing hope of doing so in the next couple of years.
Sports betting is currently not legal in South Carolina. A new bill has been proposed for 2023, so it is likely 2024 and beyond, at the earliest we could see legal sports betting in South Carolina.
Sports betting is currently not legal in Oklahoma. Though a new bill has been proposed for 2023, so some legislators remain hopeful of launching sports betting in the state soon.
Sports betting is currently not legal in Missouri. After almost passing the bill in 2022, there are already two new sports betting bills for 2023.
Sports betting is currently not legal in Minnesota. The Senate decided not to vote on the bill in 2022 for numerous reasons, but we could see developments throughout 2024 and into 2025.
Sports betting is currently not legal in Idaho. There is seemingly no current appetite to legalize sports betting in Idaho. Fantasy sports is also currently not legal in Idaho.
Sports betting is currently not legal in Hawaii. The legalization of sports betting remains a longshot, with little traction, and no major gambling entity of any kind in the state.
Sports betting is currently not legal in Georgia. A last-minute attempt to legalize sports betting in 2022 failed, but another bill has been proposed in 2023.
Sports betting has not been legalized in California. Two attempts to pass legislation failed in November 2022. Legislators will likely continue to try but a vote is unlikely to happen until after 2024.
